Stair Galleries is pleased to announce the sale of property from the Manhattan apartment of the legendary Rolling Stones’ guitarist and his stunning model wife Patti Hansen on Saturday, June 24th.
The brilliantly colorful Upper East Side apartment was conceived by Patti as a European jewel box, filled with Italian, French and English furniture, decorations, and paintings. Patti worked with designer Carol Perry of Perry Associates in Connecticut to achieve the richly romantic apartment of her dreams. Patti was inspired by an elaborate pair of Italian rococo-style giltwood headboards upholstered in a deep cobalt blue silk velvet fit for a grand Roman Palazzo. She and her designer started with the deep wall colors and spent months combing antique shops on the East Coast and in London, finding the right piece for each room. Some of her best finds were found locally at the Park Avenue Armory Antique Shows over the years.
Some of the highlights from the boho-chic apartment are an Italian rococo giltwood console which was a focal point in the Tuscan orange painted dining room anchored by an elaborate Persian Tabriz carpet. The softly painted celadon living room had a layered look centered by an opulent Karabagh carpet surmounted by a Louis XV giltwood tabouret with damask upholstery and an English black lacquer tray on top. The walls were highlighted by three large pastel floral paintings by the French artist Jacqueline Marval that Patti found in a gallery in London. The unusual pair of Italian classically painted side cabinets flanked Keith Richards’ favorite piece, the English tufted leather Chesterfield sofa.
Included in the auction is a small selection of antiques and table top articles from their Connecticut home which Mica Ertegun of Mac II designed with Patti. They are selling an English silver-plated flatware service by Walker and Hall of Sheffield, an unusual Italian orange glass decanter by Paolo Venini, a set of eight Waterford crystal wine glasses and two Flemish tapestry pillows. The Edwardian painted satinwood four poster bed will be sold along with a Flemish Baroque walnut parquetry cabinet on stand.
All of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to SPHERE of CT and Prospector Theater in Ridgefield, CT, charities close to Mr. and Mrs. Richards’ hearts. Patti’s twenty-four-year-old nephew has autism and these organizations help adults with developmental disabilities to achieve their dreams.
