CAESAR The standing group with mother embracing daughter,

*NOTE* - Doris Porter Caesar (1892-1971) came from
a well-to-do New York family. Her father
encouraged her desire to become an artist and she
attended classes at the Spence School for girls in
the morning and spent afternoons at The Art
Students League. Like most women of her
generation, she took time off from her art studies
to marry and have children. In the late 1920's she
studied with Alexander Archipenko, who had
recently arrive from Paris. She began working in
bronze. In the 1940's she produced sculpture
groups like Mother and Child, using distortion and texture to express her ideas. In the 1950's she
created a series of single, naked femal elongated
figures. Forty of her pieces were included in a
1959 Expressionist show at The Whitney Museum. She
died in Litchfield, Connecticut at the age of 78. Estimate: $1000.00 - $1500.00 Sold at $900.00
