Three Under Thirty
Meet Anne, Olivia & Emily! Stair’s three under thirty. They’ll be sharing their perspectives on working at Stair and what buying at auction can mean for your personal collection, and the world.
Name: Anne Pascale
Age: 25
Position: Client Liaison
How you came to Stair:
I originally applied as an art handler, but found my place working with clients and helping with incoming property (among other things!)
Favorite lot offered at Stair:
Josef Frank (1885-1967) “Flora” Printed Paper and Mahogany Chest of Drawers
The Collection of Mrs. John Gutfreund March 23, 2019, Lot 8
Favorite design movement:
Hard to pick just one, I’d say British Arts and Crafts 2-D design and Mid-Century Modern design
Background:
BFA in Industrial Design, SCAD
Amateur painter, lover of art and design, former florist
Name: Olivia Hanna
Age: 24
Position: Administrative Coordinator
How you came to Stair:
I started out by working at Stair Restoration when I was 16. I worked there part time on and off throughout the years. A year ago I saw an opening at the Gallery on Indeed and applied.
Favorite lot offered at Stair:
Salomon de Bray (1597-1664) The Flute Player
The Fine Sale April 28, 2019, Lot 476
Favorite movement:
Romanticism. I love the facial expressions and themes you see in the art from that time. It’s dreamlike, passionate, and a little bit dark.
Background:
BS in Fashion Merchandising with a concentration in Promotion.
I was born and raised in the Hudson Valley, and have always had an appreciation for detail oriented, quiet beauty and craftmanship.
Name: Emily Esty
Age: 25
Position: Photo Manager
How you came to Stair:
Like Anne, I also applied to be an art handler. Instead, I came on as the Administrative Coordinator, making property listings with the Specialists and sending out Condition Reports. When we restructured out photo system, I transitioned to the newly created Photo Manager position.
Favorite lot offered at Stair:
Pair of Neo-Gothic Painted Wood Lunar Windows
The Collection of Mario Buatta, March 13, 2020, Lot 120
OR
Viennese Silver Traveling Flatware Service
Vienna and the Modern Movement, February 14, 2020, Lot 86
Favorite movement:
That would have to be Realism. But I love stained glass windows, 17th century Iznik pottery, Mousman furniture, Julia Margaret Cameron’s dreamy portraits, Richard Learoyd’s hyper-detailed photographs, the collaborations of Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, and could live in the Rothko room at the Tate Modern in London.
Background:
BFA in Photography with minors in Art History and Studio Art, Cazenovia College
I’ve always been a questioner and a maker. I moved to the Hudson Valley three years ago from a small town in Central New York, on the edge of the Adirondacks.
