Design and the Decorative Arts in the Collection of Bernice Rose
Bernice and Herbert Rose lived in a modern, spare space filled with books, art and a formidable collection of modern furniture and design objects. The Rose’s taste in modern interior design can be seen in the furniture designed by Donald Judd, Marcel Breuer, Eero Saarinen and Robert Venturi that sat comfortably in their bright and airy apartment alongside modern lighting by Gae Aulenti, Pier Giuseppe Ramella and Koch & Lowey. The Roses collected pottery, silver and glass, including works by Arne Bang, Guido Gambone , Alvar Aalto, Angelo Mangiarotii, Wedgewood and Georg Jensen. Seen together, the Collection of Bernice Rose is a modern, well-curated assembly of design and decorative objects that give us a glimpse into how this venerated curator and art-world insider lived in her private space.
