Art for Access at Bennington College
Bennington College launched their innovative fundraising initiative, Art for Access, in 2018. Conceived to celebrate the college’s pioneering legacy in the visual arts, the initiative strives to advance Bennington’s commitment to equity, diversity and access to education. Through Art for Access, the college uses their art holdings to enrich the educational experience for their students as well as providing funding for scholarships through the sale of artworks. An inaugural series of sales at Christie’s in New York and Paris of select works of art in 2018 raised more than $3.1 million for scholarships. Works by Helen Frankenthaler, Diego Rivera, Anne Truitt, Robert Motherwell, Richard Serra and others were donated to the college for this purpose, exemplifying Bennington’s and their donors’ belief that art can be a dynamic and fluid resource for an educational institution. Stair is honored to be part of the Art for Access initiative and is pleased to be offering over two hundred and fifty works from the Melva Bucksbaum Collection on June 2, 2021. All of the proceeds from this sale will benefit Bennington’s vision of increased access to quality education for talented students.
