Inside the World of James M. Labaugh Antiques, Pound Ridge, NY

STAIR Decorative Arts specialist Lauren Anderson shares insights and wisdom from time spent with James M. Labaugh and John A. Tirone in preparation for their single owner sale Objects of Desire: The Collection of James M. Labaugh Antiques.

Upon meeting James Labaugh and John Tirone I had the immediate sense of being in the presence of kindred spirits. Their love for porcelain and the clients they cultivated over years of connoisseurship shone through in our early conversations.

Their collective eye, Jim’s expertise and John’s talent for sales created a perfect environment for success at Decorative Art Shows and Fairs. They sought out only the finest examples of pieces they loved and to pair them with people who were passionate about collecting.

“We sometimes used to jokingly tell the people who visited our booths at the antiques shows that we exhibited at that we are not the dealer you want if you are in pursuit of modest  and cheerful dishes, or of other porcelain or pottery that just match your drapes’. Many of those people appreciated our jovial candor. A quick glance around our booth made them clearly realize precisely what we were talking about.” – James M. Labaugh

Working with Jim and John is akin to working with family. Their kindness and generosity in every sense is a joy to experience.

The collection’s various categories give a glimpse into their interests, both aesthetically and academically, and provide for a captivating and layered collection with broad appeal to private collectors and the trade alike.

“One’s home should be a reflection of who we are, and should be filled with surroundings that bring us comfort, joy, and peace. Beautiful objects help to compliment these pursuits, and add the character, style, and taste that make each home unique.” – James M. Labaugh

The wide range of elegant porcelain spans from beautiful examples of First Period Worcester, Derby and Meissen to sophisticated fine Chinese Export and beyond. STAIR is honored to offer these special pieces and celebrate their history as Objects of Desire.
