Americana at STAIR on Thursday, August 1 at 10am

Celebrating the history and diversity of the United States, our August Americana sale offers a selection of furniture, folk art and decorations that represent the fine and decorative arts heritage of our nation. Highlighting the sale is Property from the Collection of Henry B. Holt, esteemed collector of Americana and dealer in American art for decades. Highlights from the Holt collection,as well as other various owners, include a selection of pottery, Nantucket baskets and silhouettes, as well as a selection of Shaker furniture, a fine Connecticut Queen Anne cherry highboy with provenance back to the 18th century, a Philadelphia Federal inlaid mahogany sideboard, a Painted Blanket Box, from York County Pennsylvania, a George Washington Painted Iron ‘Dumb’ Stove and a variety of unusual weathervanes. Fine Art highlights include a scene in the Berkshires by Eric Sloane, two paintings by Ralph Cahoon, a rare gouache on paper of Niagara Falls by Nicolino Calyo, a group of works by Reynolds Beal, and a large selection of Marine paintings,including works by Antonio Jacobsen, Charles Lungren, James Sessions and Frank Vining Smith.
